Overview
The Capture Profiles tab of the Configuration root is the central organization cluster of the Capture Profiles available in your installation. This is the product area in which new Capture Profiles can be added, edited, copied, deleted, imported, and exported. Additionally, capture profiles can be searched, filtered, and grouped according to your business needs. Explore the article below to learn more about how to use this tab of the Configuration root menu.
Capture Profile Configuration is the most important part of configuring PSIcapture.
Correct setup of capture profiles is the most essential part of making PSIcapture work for you and your business. A poorly customized capture profile can add unnecessary work that slows the process. The good news is that configuring and fine-tuning capture profiles is relatively easy, especially with the right information. A common approach is to kick off projects by creating ‘working’ capture profile configurations for testing by using sample documents, folders, boxes, fiche, film, etc. Capture profiles needing minor or major changes can be edited or easily copied to create similar types and modified as projects move from the pilot phase to full production.

PSIcapture Administrator Guide: Capture Profile - General Setup
Configured Capture Profiles
To configure Capture Profiles, select the Capture Profiles tab in the Configuration settings:
The buttons to the right of the list allow the user to Add, Edit, Copy, Delete, Update processing instructions on existing batches, Export/Import Capture Profiles as an XML file, for re-use on other PSIcapture Systems, export for PSIcapture Fusion, and Toggle Grouping of capture profiles.
Copy, Delete, Update, Import, Export, Fusion Export, and Toggle Grouping are covered in the Capture Profiles tab section.
Add
To add a new Capture Profile, press the ‘Add’ button. The Capture Profile Configuration wizard will open and walk through the process of creating a new Capture Profile.
New Capture Profile Options
The user can choose between three options as described below
Create a blank Capture Profile
The user may select “Create a blank Capture Profile” which will then take them to Capture Profile - General.
Create a Classification Capture Profile
This allows the user to choose classification-based separation for documents by the following two options:
- Use Form-Based Document Separation
- User Standard user-defined Document Separation
Create from a pre-defined template
When a template is selected, the user will be asked to put in the credentials for connecting to the migration selected. Once these credentials are entered the program will attempt to configure all index field definitions including name, type, size, and if it is required, any lists of items that may be allowable for each field, and depending on which template is selected workflow and security-related items are also obtained from the selected system.
Edit
Highlighting an existing Capture Profile and selecting edit takes the user to Capture Profile - General.

Search Capture Profiles
As shown in the picture below users can search through Capture Profiles by name, description, created date, or modified date.
Capture Profile History
This icon enables the user to look at the history of any Capture Profile.
Add and Edit
Create a new Capture Profile or edit the highlighted one. These options are covered in the Capture Profile Configuration section.
Copy
Select this button to copy the highlighted Capture Profile. Users will be asked to give the new Capture Profile a name. This feature copies the complete configuration with exception of any Auto Import directories to be monitored as two Capture Profiles may NOT monitor the same directory.
Delete
Permanently removes the highlighted Capture Profile.
Update Batches
This function allows the user to update the configuration of a suspended batch. Updating PSIcapture batches is necessary when configuration changes are implemented on the capture profile, but an existing batch has already begun processing, and is in any step of the workflow with the old configuration settings present. This process will update the batch and apply your configuration changes so that users don't need to recapture the batch and restart the workflow process. Administrators can then choose to modify the workflow step as it suits the business needs.
NOTE: Single batches may be edited in each module provided the user is authorized to do so. Before selecting this function, edit the desired Capture Profile, make the changes desired, and then highlight the Capture Profile and select Update Batches.
Select Batches
Choose Select Batch, the user will then be presented with a Batch Selection screen. Highlight the batch or batches to be updated. They will appear as below.
Select the workflow step to move these batches to or choose leave in current step.
WARNING: Selecting more than 15 batches is NOT recommended as each one is checked out to that station and the system may run out of memory.
NOTE: If the user adds or removes a workflow step from the Capture Profile workflow the batch(es) will automatically be moved to the Capture/Import step.
NOTE: PSIcapture will clear the completed flag for any workflow steps after the newly selected step. This flag would have been set if a batch completed a workflow step before the user changed the configuration in the edit step. The user may desire for the batch(es) in question to go through those workflow steps again.
Update Batch Capture Profile
Once a capture profile is selected, the Update Batch Capture Profile window appears, which gives a breakdown of the process of updating the batch, and allows you to begin the process, or select additional batches.
Assign the following workflow step to the updated batches when the configuration change included an updated workflow.
Begin Update
Select Begin Update and the system will checkout each batch and update it. The status will be one of the following: Pending, Processing, Update Complete, Error Checking Out Batch and Error Updating.
Import
This function allows the user to import a previously exported Capture Profile configuration. Some Storage locations, Auto Import monitoring locations, and database configurations may need to be edited, as they can be lost during import . Check over each of these items to verify they are configured as intended.
Export
This function allows the user to configure a Capture Profile and export it for use in another location or Capture Server.
Version 6.0.1.6+
The user has the option to exclude the Zone Profile or Classification Templates when exporting one or more Capture Profiles.
Fusion Export
For more information on formerly Fusion, now Mailroom, see: PSIcapture Mailroom Administrator Guide: Document Profiles.
Toggle Grouping
All Capture Profiles can be designated as a member of a user-specified group to aid the organization. To modify the group of a Capture Profile edit that Capture Profile and modify the group name on Capture Profile - General.
