Problem: Running the update on a client machine (Windows XP) get the following error message: Error Message Header: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Error 1304. Error writing to file: C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-www_473666fd.manifest. Verify that you have access to that directory.
Solution:
Give Modify rights to the C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests folder for the logged in user and retry update.
If in the properties screen for the folder the security Tab is missing then you are using Simple File Sharing. Please do the following:
Open any folder, under Tools, click Folder Options then View, scroll to the bottom and uncheck Use Simple File Sharing.
Go to the directory and folder in question, right click the folder Properties, Security tab, Advanced, Owner, change owner to your name, and click ok. Look at the accounts with permissions to the folder; it should probably have Administrator, your user name and System. It is likely all need full control. If you change something and get an error about inheritance, you can turn it off, copy permissions; make any changes you need, click ok.
