Product Lifecycle Policy

Kofax will provide product updates as necessary to deliver new functional enhancements and correct discovered defects for so long as the product is actively listed in the Kofax product catalog. Removal of a product from the product catalog is at the sole discretion of Kofax, but in all cases of product discontinuation Kofax distributors, resellers and customers will be provided a minimum of six months advance notice that the product is scheduled for removal. Notice will be provided via one or more of the following: direct email, email newsletters, and updates to Kofax web sites; including the Partner Portal and the Knowledge Base.

Kofax is committed to supporting the most current Major Release of all products currently listed in the Kofax product catalog (see Product Version Definitions). When a new Minor Release enters General Availability (GA), the previous, most current Minor Release is no longer available for sale to distributors, resellers or customers and is then considered to be the legacy Minor Release. Kofax will continue to offer technical support for all versions within the Major Release family. Kofax will only provide Service Pack and Patch Releases for the current Minor Release, as well as the supplanted legacy Minor Release for six months from the GA date of the current Minor Release. At the expiration of the legacy support period, no additional Service Packs or Updates will be released for the legacy Product Release.

If Kofax determines (in its sole discretion) that a Support Request (as defined in the Product Support Commitment) logged against a legacy product release requires a new update for resolution, the distributor, reseller and/or customer will be required to upgrade to the latest Product Release. Should the distributor, reseller and/or customer choose not to upgrade, they will lose any right to Support under the Product Support Commitment with respect to the Support Request in question, until such time that the required upgrade is performed.

For all Kofax products, when a Released Product enters its End of Support period according to the Lifecycle policy, support to facilitate migration to a current Product Release will remain available with an active maintenance contract, subject to provided coverage.

Product Version Definitions

For all Kofax products, the following terms define how Product Releases are categorized:

Major Release

A Product Release that contains product-wide visual or functional changes will be categorized as a Major Release. Major Releases are identifiable by a change to the first number in the Product’s version. A Major Release will always require a full install to upgrade from a previous release. 

Example:  PSIcapture 4.0 was the first Major Release following the 3.x product line. PSIsafe 11.0 was the Major Release following PSIsafe 10.4.

Minor Release

Product Releases containing substantial new or redesigned functionality will be categorized as a Minor Release. Minor Releases are identifiable by a change to the second number in the Product’s version. A Minor Release will always require a full install to upgrade from a previous release. 

Example:  PSIcapture 4.1 was the first Minor Release in the 4.x product line. PSIsafe 11.2 was the Minor Release following PSIsafe 11.0.

Service Pack Release

Product Releases that represent a rollup of previously released Patches and/or contain updated third-party components will be classified as a Service Pack. Service Pack Releases are identifiable by a change to the third number in a Product’s version. A Service Pack release will always require a full install to upgrade from a previous release. Service Pack releases will generally be scheduled for release at the end of each month, excepting those months where no significant updates to the product were required.

Example: PSIcapture 4.1.1 was the first Service Pack Release in the 4.x product line.

Patch Release

Product releases containing key bug fixes or minor functionality changes will be categorized as a Patch Release. Patch Releases are identifiable by a change to the last number in the Product’s version and/or designated with a "P" designator during release. A Patch Release may include a full install and/or update installer to upgrade from a previous release.

Example: PSIcapture 7.3.0.7 was the first Patch Release in PSIcapture 7.3.

Product Lifecycle Definitions

All Kofax products follow a product lifecycle, as described and defined below:

Alpha Release

Software that has not been cleared by Kofax Quality Assurance. This software may be used for early stakeholder previews in order to tune final deliverable.

Internal Release

Software that has been cleared by Kofax Quality Assurance. This software is available for internal user acceptance testing prior to being made available to outside parties.

Beta Release

Software that has been cleared by Kofax Quality Assurance. This software is available for limited external user acceptance testing prior to being made generally available to Kofax partners and customers.

General Availability Release

Software that has been cleared by Kofax Quality Assurance. This software is available to Kofax partners and customers.

Retired

Software that is not actively distributed by Kofax, Inc.

• End-of-Life (EOL): this software product/feature is at the end of its useful life and is not intended for sale (please reference your official price list). However, this product may be eligible for continued support with current support and maintenance agreement.
• End-of-Support (EOS): this software product/feature has reached the end of available support, and will no longer be eligible for technical support by Kofax support.
